Current status

MİLDEN is Türkiye’s indigenous submarine programme and represents the next stage after experience accumulated through the REİS-class and submarine-modernisation programmes.

The Ministry of National Defence has confirmed that construction of the first MİLDEN test block has begun at Gölcük Naval Shipyard. ASFAT has also been identified by the ministry as holding a major contractor role in the programme.

Why it matters

A domestically designed submarine represents one of the most demanding levels of naval industrial sovereignty because it combines hydrodynamics, quieting, propulsion, sonar, combat systems, weapons and underwater survivability.
