This Cookie Policy explains how Defence Agenda (“we”, “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit defenceagenda.com (the “Site”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make sites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to site operators.

Your consent comes first

When you arrive, only strictly necessary cookies are in use. Measurement and advertising signals stay switched off until you choose: on your first visit a banner asks for your decision, and every storage permission is set to denied until you grant it. If you decline, nothing further is stored on your device.

You can change your mind at any time through the Cookie Settings link in the footer of every page. Your choice is kept in your browser’s local storage, not on our servers.

Categories

  • Strictly necessary. Required for the Site to function — routing traffic securely through our content-delivery network (Cloudflare) and remembering the cookie choice you made. These cannot be switched off.
  • Analytics (optional). If you accept this category, we load Google Analytics to count visits and see which coverage is read. It sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_<stream-id>, typically for up to two years. Until you accept, the tag stores nothing on your device.
  • Advertising (optional). If you accept this category, Google’s advertising measurement tag records which campaigns bring readers to the Site. It sets cookies such as _gcl_au, and Google may set test_cookie or IDE on its own domains. Until you accept, these are not set.
  • Embedded content. Some pages embed video from YouTube (our “Watch & Listen” section). Nothing loads from the provider until you press play; once you do, the provider may set its own cookies under its own policy.

Sponsorship creatives on this Site are served by us from our own content management system. They are ordinary images and set no cookies and no third-party tracking of their own.

We do not sell personal data. Where you have accepted measurement, Google processes that data under its own terms, including any audience features tied to your Google account settings.

Your choices

  • On this Site: use Cookie Settings in the footer to accept or reject each optional category, at any time.
  • In your browser: refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings, or browse in a private window. Cookies already set can be removed there at any time.
  • With Google: install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or adjust the ad-personalisation controls in your Google account.
