EDGE has delivered six ANAVIA HT-100 NAVAL unmanned helicopters to the Angolan Navy after factory acceptance trials held in Switzerland from 24–28 August 2026. Two systems are planned for each of three BR71 MK II corvettes, with ship integration and sea trials still to follow. The delivery links an unmanned-aircraft package directly to a new corvette fleet rather than treating the UAV as a stand-alone purchase. Factory acceptance is complete, ship integration is not

EDGE said all six systems completed operational flying tests during factory acceptance activity at ANAVIA’s Bilten facility. Delivery transfers the aircraft package to the customer programme, but it does not mean the combined ship-air system is operational. Integration with the corvettes’ combat management systems, deck procedures, communications and support arrangements remains a separate technical phase.

Two aircraft are planned for each corvette

The six HT-100 NAVAL systems will be distributed across three 71-metre BR71 MK II Combattante corvettes. Carrying two aircraft can support rotation between flying, maintenance and readiness states, although EDGE has not publicly defined the Angolan concept of operations. The aircraft are fitted with electro-optical and infrared sensors for surveillance and reconnaissance.

The UAVs sit inside a EUR 1 billion naval programme

EDGE links the unmanned-aircraft delivery to its EUR 1 billion agreement covering three corvettes for Angola. The first-of-class NRA Ekuikui II has been launched in Cherbourg, while construction is split between CMN Naval in France and ADSB in Abu Dhabi. The distributed build and integration plan makes configuration control and common acceptance standards important across several industrial sites.

Maritime value will depend on integration quality

A shipborne rotary-wing UAV can look beyond the radar horizon, classify contacts and provide persistent imagery without committing a crewed helicopter. Its operational value, however, depends on secure datalinks, launch-and-recovery limits, maintenance capacity and how quickly sensor tracks enter the ship’s command system. Sea trials will therefore be more probative than the completed factory flights.

Implications / Next

The programme should next demonstrate safe deck operations, combat-management-system integration and sea-trial performance in Angolan conditions. Operational service should not be claimed before customer acceptance.

The programme will remain under editorial review for contract records, official imagery and customer-side confirmation. Any later milestone should be treated as a new event only if it materially changes the verified status described here.
