Current status

HAVA SOJ is Türkiye’s airborne stand-off electronic-support/electronic-attack programme for the Turkish Air Force. SSB defines its operational purpose as suppressing adversary air-defence radars, disrupting command-and-control cycles and interfering with communications from stand-off ranges without requiring the platform to enter hostile airspace.

SSB’s current programme page states that the project is intended to deliver four HAVA SOJ systems to the Turkish Air Force together with hangars, squadron buildings, and a planning and training centre. The aircraft are to carry domestically produced Radar ES/EA and Communications ES/EA capabilities.

The programme has passed significant factory-level milestones. ASELSAN’s 2023 Annual Report states that the first factory acceptance tests of HAVA SOJ system units were successfully completed. The same reporting period described factory acceptance completion for the first ASOJ-23A mission system and the start of aircraft integration.

However, Defence Agenda should not translate these subsystem and factory milestones into a claim that the full four-system operational fleet has been delivered. As of 22 August 2026, the current SSB page still describes the programme in delivery-objective terms. The safest status is therefore active integration and delivery programme unless a newer primary source confirms complete handover.

Why it matters

HAVA SOJ is a force-multiplier programme rather than a conventional aircraft procurement.

Stand-off electronic attack can reduce the effectiveness of radar and communications networks before or during air operations, improving survivability for fighters, UAVs, cruise missiles and other strike assets. The capability is therefore relevant to Türkiye’s wider combat-air transformation, including ÖZGÜR, KAAN and uncrewed systems.

It also represents a demanding level of national EW integration. The programme requires threat libraries, receivers, high-power emitters, AESA-based electronic attack, signal processing, mission planning, aircraft integration, test infrastructure, operator training and continuous reprogramming against changing threats.

The supporting buildings and training/planning centre specified by SSB are important: they show that HAVA SOJ is an operational enterprise, not simply an aircraft-mounted jammer.

Track the conversion/integration status of each aircraft, mission-system installation, ground/flight testing and acceptance.

Radar electronic warfare

Follow detection, identification, geolocation and stand-off electronic-attack capabilities without publishing sensitive tactical parameters not released by programme authorities.

Communications electronic warfare

Track communications ES/EA integration separately from radar EW; completion of one mission-system element does not imply full-system acceptance.

Threat libraries and reprogramming

EW effectiveness depends on software and threat-data currency. Monitor reprogramming infrastructure, mission-data support and updates.

Delivery status

Use serial-number or acceptance-level evidence wherever possible. Distinguish factory acceptance, aircraft acceptance, system delivery and operational squadron service.

Supporting infrastructure

Track the planning/training centre and squadron infrastructure because these are part of SSB’s formal programme scope.
