MSB SAHA 2026 Briefing Highlights New Systems

MSB SAHA 2026 messaging placed Türkiye’s defence industry on a broader strategic footing. At Istanbul Expo Center on 7 May 2026, the Ministry of National Defence used its weekly press briefing to highlight new missiles, engines, electronic warfare systems, artillery, naval platforms and defence cooperation agreements. The briefing showed how SAHA 2026 served not only as an exhibition, but also as a platform for capability signalling.

MSB Uses SAHA 2026 for Capability Signalling

The Ministry of National Defence framed SAHA 2026 as a major international platform for defence and aerospace cooperation. The briefing was held during the 5–9 May 2026 exhibition. It underlined the role of the event in presenting Türkiye’s local and national defence capabilities to foreign delegations, industry leaders and the public.

Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, MSB’s Press and Public Relations Advisor and ministry spokesperson, delivered the briefing after Minister Yaşar Güler’s remarks. Defence Turkey reported that Güler also addressed current questions on the Yıldırımhan missile and the Güçhan turbofan engine before the formal briefing.

The message was clear. SAHA 2026 gave MSB and its affiliated organisations a high-visibility stage. It allowed Türkiye to present not only individual products, but also an emerging defence-industrial ecosystem. That ecosystem now links missiles, engines, electronic warfare, artillery, naval systems and air defence.

Yıldırımhan, Güçhan and Gölgehan Lead the MSB Portfolio

The most strategic announcements focused on systems developed through the MSB R&D structure. The ministry listed Gölgehan Jammer among the products on display. It also highlighted the Yıldırımhan long-range missile, which it described as liquid-rocket-fuelled and capable of hypersonic-speed flight.

Engine development was another major theme. MSB presented the Güçhan turbofan aircraft engine and Onur turboshaft helicopter engine. According to the briefing, critical parts of these engines were produced by MSB R&D. That point matters because propulsion remains one of the hardest areas of defence sovereignty.

Small-arms capability also featured in the briefing. MSB identified PNR-53 Sniper as a rifle with a maximum range of 2,100 metres. The ministry also described it as the lightest weapon in its calibre. For export markets, such claims will require further technical validation. Still, the message fits Türkiye’s wider push to display complete military supply options at SAHA 2026.

MKE Introduces More Than 50 New Products

Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi A.Ş. used the exhibition to expand the land systems and munitions narrative. MSB listed the 105 mm URAN vehicle-mounted howitzer and the ATTİLA 155 mm vehicle-mounted howitzer among the showcased products. These systems point to mobile fire-support needs on modern battlefields.

MKE also displayed the ALPAY-2 mine clearing system, the 300 Blackout rifle and 7.62 mm anti-drone ammunition. The anti-drone round is especially relevant. Recent conflicts have pushed armies to search for low-cost counter-UAS tools that can support layered air defence.

The briefing also placed the TOLGA short-range air defence system in focus. MSB said the system now includes an acoustic system, a laser weapon system and the ENFAL-17 missile. This combination reflects a wider trend. Modern air defence must detect, classify and defeat small aerial threats with several response options.

Contracts and Industrial Cooperation Expand the Agenda

MSB’s briefing was not limited to product displays. It also included procurement and cooperation items. These covered CBRN protective material procurement, MOD184 multi-purpose artillery fuzes and MOD135 proximity fuzes.

ASFAT also appeared in several announcements. MSB reported a contract linked to four Denizhan national naval guns. It also noted a letter of intent between ASFAT and Italy’s Magnaghi Aerospace for joint production of the SkyArrow aircraft platform. Separately, the briefing announced a contract for 27 ZAHA armoured amphibious assault vehicles for the Turkish Naval Forces Command.

International cooperation was also part of the picture. MKE signed memoranda with Hungary-based HT Division for integrating TOLGA air defence systems into unmanned ground vehicles. Another memorandum with Azerbaijan-based Miras Military Industrial Company focused on BMP-1 armoured vehicle modernisation.

Naval Platforms Strengthen the Public Signal

SAHA 2026 also included a strong naval component. MSB said TCG Anadolu, TCG İstanbul and TCG Piri Reis participated in the exhibition programme. This gave the event a broader operational profile. It also connected industrial displays with visible Turkish Naval Forces assets.

The ministry also announced public visits. TCG Anadolu was scheduled to open to the public at Sarayburnu on 8–9 May. TCG İstanbul was scheduled for public access at Ataköy during the same period. This added a public diplomacy layer to the defence-industrial programme.

Ministerial Meetings Add Defence Diplomacy Weight

The briefing also showed how SAHA 2026 supported defence diplomacy. Minister Yaşar Güler held meetings with defence ministers from Somalia, Kosovo, Kenya, Kuwait, Mauritania, Sudan and Estonia. He also met senior officials from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Somalia, Canada, Vietnam, Ghana, Lebanon and Iraq.

Two agreements stood out. Güler signed a Military Financial Cooperation Agreement with Kosovo’s defence minister. He also signed a Defence Cooperation Agreement with Kenya’s defence minister. These meetings show why SAHA 2026 matters beyond procurement. The exhibition helped Türkiye combine diplomacy, industry and military cooperation in one venue.

New Systems Enter the Turkish Armed Forces Inventory

MSB also reported new inventory activity for the Turkish Armed Forces. The Land Forces Command received OMTAS turreted armoured anti-tank vehicles and 17-person Karinalı boats after inspection and acceptance activities. This detail connects the SAHA 2026 message to active force modernisation.

The link between exhibition and inventory is important. Defence fairs can be dominated by prototypes and concepts. In this case, the briefing mixed new product promotion with accepted systems, contracts and cooperation agreements. That gives the MSB SAHA 2026 message more practical weight.

Implications / Next

MSB’s SAHA 2026 briefing showed a broad technology agenda. Missiles, engines, electronic warfare, air defence, artillery, naval guns and amphibious vehicles all appeared in one communications frame. This is not accidental. Türkiye is presenting a defence industry that seeks depth across several capability areas.

The next indicators will be technical and contractual. Yıldırımhan will need test evidence. Güçhan and Onur will need maturity milestones. TOLGA’s expanded architecture will need integration proof. The ASFAT, MKE and ZAHA-related agreements will also need delivery progress. If these tracks advance, SAHA 2026 will stand as a key marker in Türkiye’s defence-industrial consolidation.
